NetSync Manual
“NetSync” is a file replicator that achieves efficient, adaptive, and fault-tolerant file replication to many nodes. Grid applications often need to replicate files to many nodes as a first step for computing. Replication from only one node to many nodes is clearly inefficient. Since accesses are congested to the one node and bandwidth or so are not utilized efficiently. Besides, Grid environments often consist of several subnets so that many inter-subnet connections for replication are inefficient, because they have narrower bandwidth and larger response time than intra-subnet connections and often cause bottleneck. In a typical network, nodes where NetSync are running construct an efficient transfer tree adaptively. [3] It includes fewer inter-subnet transfer connections and transfer connections at every node than most possible transfer trees.
This manual describes how to setup and how to use NetSync software. We recommend you use NetSync in combination with MPSH.[2] This manual and NetSync software are available on the web page Phoenix Grid Programming and Tools Project [1]. If you need more detailed information, access.
NetSync Software
This program is written in Java. It is supported by a newer version of Java Runtime Edition than version 1.4.0. We have tried it on several architectures, including Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux (i386), Solaris (sparc), Tru64Unix (alpha), and OS X (mac).
Our distributed software is a file “NetSync.jar” which includes programs and sources. When you need sources, extract files inside NetSync.jar by “jar” command in Sun Java 2 Standard Edition.
To execute replication, run NetSync in all nodes which participate in the transfer. Then, send the issue to several nodes of them with information of a file which you want to replicate. After that, NetSync programs construct efficient transfer pipeline automatically and propagate the file to all nodes.
