30 April 2006 By: Mihai Mustata, Communications News Editor Live TV Shows on LG U900 LG U900 - first commercial UMTS DVB-H handset LG Electronics launched LG U900, the first mobile phone on the market functioning in UMTS (WCDMA) DVB-H networks. The handset was announced in Rome, Italy and will be offered through the Hutchinson Company early May of this year.
Hutchison Italy, 3G telecommunications provider, has exclusive DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld) broadcasting rights for the 2006 World Cup.
The company will provide video footage of all World Cup matches beginning June 6, through the Hutchison’s service channels, ‘La3′. Hutchison plans to offer the LG UMTS (WCDMA) DVB-H phone to customers world-wide, after initially establishing a base in Italy. LG-U900 users will watch TV shows up to 3 hours because of the phone’s long battery life. Even more, the handset is equipped with 1.3 mega pixels VGA camera and 58 MB internal memory.
