Imagination and Samsung demo advanced graphics on Omnia HD
Imagination and Samsung have worked together to develop demonstrations of the Omnia HD smartphone’s dazzling shader-based graphics capabilities, which take mobile phone graphics to the next level. Samsung’s new Omnia HD smartphone is a landmark: a Symbian-based handset built on a Texas Instruments OMAP 3 chip with Imagination’s POWERVR SGX graphics processing technology. The Omnia HD i8910 is the first mobile phone with advanced OpenGL ES 2.0 shader-based graphics.
Sanj Matharu, global relations manager, Samsung said:
“Imagination has a reputation for providing industry leading SDKs, tools and dedicated technical support for devices incorporating POWERVR technology and we’re delighted that they are supporting Samsung handsets with both their SDK and OpenGL ES 2.0 demos.” Demonstrations of OpenGL ES 2.0 shader-graphics content created with Imagination’s development tools were on show at Samsung and Imagination’s stands at MWC (and on YouTube not long after!).
Imagination’s POWERVR Insider SDK (software development kit) now supports the latest Samsung smartphone, the Omnia HD i8910, as well as existing Samsung handsets including the GT-i8510 and GT-i7110. The POWERVR Insider SDK is fully compliant with the Khronos OpenGL ES 2.0 API (application processing interface) which is supported, for the first time in the mobile market, by the new Samsung phones.
