EPSON Stylus C60 Inkjet Printer

This report documents a manufacturing cost analysis performed on the Epson Stylus C60 inkjet printer. The data in this report was developed from analysis of a new unit received from a national distributor. The unit was unpacked, setup, and tested according to its enclosed documentation. After testing, the C60 was disassembled to a level that enabled each part to be identified and documented in a parts cost breakdown estimate report. The parts cost breakdown report has been arranged to emulate an engineering drawing structure. It documents the estimated product cost from the individual components and sub-assemblies to the finished printer. Packing and shipping materials are also included in this report.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Stylus C60 is an introductory-level inkjet printer. This personal printer offers 4-color (CMYK) drop-on-demand Micro Piezo ink jet technology, 2880 x 720 dpi resolution, 4 picoliter ink droplet size, 12 pages per minute black text printing, USB or parallel interface, and the capability to print on a variety of media types and sizes. The C60 also features Epson’s AcuPhoto Halftoning® technology, which supposedly reduces gradations and yields more natural-looking flesh hues.

The input paper tray will hold 100 sheets of paper or 10 envelopes. The output paper tray will hold 30 sheets of paper. Without the paper support and with the output tray stored, the printer is 18.8” x 10.5” x 5.125” and weighs 6.3 lbs. The printer is shipped with one black ink cartridge, one color ink cartridge, documentation, photo quality inkjet paper package, and a CD-ROM that contains printer software (Windows and Macintosh).

SETUP & OPERATION
Unpacking the Stylus C60 was painless. The printer driver software was installed with ease and the C60 was installed as a local printer via the unit’s USB interface. All setup and installation procedures, including the loading of the ink cartridges, were extremely easy, as is normally the case with Epson’s printers.

After setup and installation was complete, the C60 was tested for print quality and print speed. This no-frills printer was very simple to operate. Adjusting the printer for different types and sizes of media was very easy to do. Epson has designed software with a user interface that is, for the most part, un-intimidating. However, there are several customizing options, such as ICM (Image Color Matching) and sRGB (standard Red Green Blue), which are probably unfamiliar terms for a lot of users. Fortunately, these are all explained in the Printer Basics manual.
