Fleet Review: 2007 Bosch BMW 535d
While it may be a year old, the diesel BMW 5-series was never sold in America, but it’s still something we wish we could have the option to shop for in this market. Our friends at Bosch imported a Euro-spec 535d for us to test, featuring a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six capable of producing 286 horsepower and a whopping 428 pound-feet of torque. Our test car also adorned BMW’s M Sport appearance package, available on the European 5-series. This, combined with tinted rear windows and a badge-less rear end made this 5-series our stealth bomber of choice for cruising. Click through the scroll of images above and click through the post to read our full impressions of the not-for-U.S. 535d.

BMW M5 vs. 750il Road test
Sport and touring disciplines are inherently conflicting. Sports cars need to be light, responsive, and firmly suspended; luxury cars soft, quiet, and smooth. Perhaps more than any other car company, BMW has demonstrated the ability to fuse successfully touring and sport technologies to offer vehicles that do both well. The 7-series Beemers are benchmark tourers, and not without some good handling qualities. Likewise, the 5-series cars offer exemplary handling, combined with more than acceptable traveling credentials. Sitting at the top of the 5-series lineup is the new-for-’91 M5. At the top of the 7s is the much improved 750iL.

BMW E32 750iL 88-94 (Hydro-Pneumatic) Level Control Systems
Purpose of the System The primary function of Level Control Systems is to maintain the height of the vehicle as closely as possible to a predetermined level under all load conditions. This constant level allows the suspension system to maintain the alignment geometry. Camber and Toe in are minimally affected when the ride height is consistent. In addition, the headlight range stays consistent throughout the various operating conditions. The Level Control System is designed to operate in the event of static changes such as when passengers are entering or exiting the vehicle or quasi-static such as s when the fuel tank is emptying while driving.
The Level Control System come in various configurations such as hydraulic (hydropneumatic) or pneumatic only systems.
Hydropneumatic systems use high pressure hydraulic fluid which is dampened by a gas cushion from a nitrogen charged accumulator. These system use and electro-hydraulic pump or an engine driven piston pump. These systems are installed as follows: Hydropneumatic Level Control System with electro-hydraulic pump - This type of system is used on the early 5 Series vehicles (E12 and E28), the 6 Series (E24) and the early 7 Series (E23). This system uses an electric motor, pump and an expansion tank which is connected by hydraulic lines to the rear spring struts. The rear spring struts are also connected to a pair of pressure accumulators which are “Nitrogen Charged”. There is a control switch which mounted on the rear axle which monitors the position of the stabilizer bar. Changes in ride height are detected and the system is regulated to maintain the correct level. During prolonged dynamic movements during acceleration and braking, the level control system is disabled by an acceleration sensor (mercury switch) and brake light input to the hydraulic control unit.

1989-95 BMW E34 5-series Audio System Upgrades
BMW E34 audio system upgrades, 1989-95 5-series UPGRADE I. In this upgrade we address the inadequacies of the factory bass system and underpowered factory amp. Stock systems are not equipped with subwoofers. Therefore, the best first investment is to add one to the existing system.
To add a subwoofer to the factory system we need an amplifier to power it. We have a several choices here, depending on budget. The least expensive alternative would be to use a single 310rs.2 along with a P450 amplifier. Powering the new sub-woofer with any a/d/s/ P-series amplifier will allow use of the optional AC502 bass level controller for up-front bass level adjustment.

BMW E34 Touring Rear Wire Harness Repair Layout
The repair wiring harnesses for BMW E34 touring models are universal for ALL applications (Europe, Japan, US, etc). The high mount stop light wires (two wires in one sheath), and window defroster wires (two wires in one sheath), connect directly to plug ends behind the grommets where the harnesses enter the D pillar. If you observe how things are assembled as you are taking the old wiring out, you will see how they should go back together. At the other end of the respective wiring, the high mount stop light has two spade ends that connect to the back of the stop light, while the defroster wiring needs to be spliced in to the leads coming off the grid on the rear window. Cut the existing ones 4 or 5 inches from where they are attached to the window and solder and shrink wrap the new ends to them.
